I'm in the market for a new/my first pistol!! I'm excited. Wife is getting it for me for Christmas I've narrowed my selection down to 3 guns. All 40 cals. Shot all 3 at the range the other day. Glock 22, Springfield XD, and Sig 229. I'm leaning toward Springfield or Sig based on how the guns felt in my hand and how I shot. I wish I would have shot and compared my 2 favorites again before leaving the range... maybe have to go back... I'm interested in knowing who has shot these 3 guns and which one they liked best and why?? Also interested in hearing opinions about brand names/reliablity/warranties/etc. |

I own the XD and the 229 in .40cal. Out of those two.....the 229 hands down for me. Not to say the XD is a bad gun at all, but the Sig just feels and shoots much better to me.
Been a long time since I handled a Glock. I suspect you'll find the Sig feels better, but I could be wrong. |

One of the reasons I picked a Sig 229 was the fact that you can shoot .40S&W, .357Sig, and 9mm in the same pistol.
I bought mine in .40S&W and picked up a new .357Sig barrel on the EE for $100. Just a thought. Good luck. |

Thanks everyone!
11BDAD, your point about the "3-in-1" caliber option is VERY appealing... I just found out about that option yesterday from a co-worker... said the same thing... I think I'm leaning P229 40 cal! So a "stock" P229 40 cal is what you got 11BDAD? Then you just get "aftermarket" parts, right? Do you know which is most cost effective? Buying the 357 sig, 40 cal or 9mm as the "primary" gun and then modding it post-market? (maybe you can only mod the 40 cal????) |

You are correct. You can't go up if you have one in a 9mm. Starting with the .40 will allow you some time to look for a deal on .357sig and 9mm barrels. Although the .40 and .357sig will use the same magazines, some folks have been using them for the 9mm. I haven't tried that so I don't know for sure. Think I'm going to just add some 9mm mags and get a 9mm recoil spring.
If you are happy wiith the way the P229 felt and performed, I think it makes perfect sense. I bought the P229R DAK .40 S&W from Mark at Summit Gun Broker. (www.summitgunbroker.com) Looks almost brand new, 3 mags, Trijicon night sights. $485 plus shipping. Shops around here wanted $900 for a new one. Finding the new .357sig barrel for $100 was just icing. Good luck. |
| Sig P229, but i don't care for the plastic guns, and i also like having an exposed hammer. Sig beefed up thier P228 to handle the 40 caliber which i like. Glocks have an unsuported chamber which can be a problem with the 40 caliber if you reload esspecially. The XD's just feel cheap to me, but they do work fine, also don't like the grip on them, too small for my hands. |

my springfield xd tactical has never giving me any problems not even a hiccup.
my sig 226 elite on the other hand has jammed on me several times..ftf and fte during the "break in" period. a gun to me should run flawlessly from the first round... "to hell and back reliability" just my 2 cents |

I think its a matter of preference.
they are all great pistols. If you want to be able to fix it yourself, the glock is the way to go. If you want smooth shooting, i'd go with the sig. The XD's ergonomics are great. I own a sig, a glock and an XD and you can't go wrong. Test them all out and pick the one you like best. |
