Ok I was at the fun store and picked up a XD Tactical in 9mm and absolutly love it! Now I'm looking at getting another one but cant decide on 40 or 45. I cant decide on another tactical or duty. Then there are the sights, Heini nights or Tijicon. Help. Thanks |

Get a .45. If you are going to go up in bullet size, you might as well go all the way and skip the half step, or else in 6 months you'll be buying the right caliber anyway. Unless you want all three, which would probably go over pretty well with the "get both" mentality. |
+1 The .45 is also more pleasant to shoot, the .40 has a more snappy recoil. |
This shit is parroted all over the place. I don't find my XD-40 Service or Subcompact to be any "snappier" than a .45ACP. Personally, I'd get whatever caliber you are most comfortable with, Trijicon sights (I really like mine), and the Tactical length barrel (5"). I wish I'd gotten the Tactical length when I bought my Service, but I have no complaints about either of my XD's. |
I'm not parroting anything. Before I bought my XD-45 service, I shot both the .45 and the .40. The .45 was noticeably less jumpy than the .40, it feels smoother to shoot. *note* The following is "parroted": The way I've heard it described is that the .40 is a higher pressure round than the .45, so it has more "umph" out of the barrel. Now that said, most recoil is "perceived", so it really depends on the shooter. I have an XD-45 service and an XD-9 subcompact. I enjoy shooting them both. I didn't like the .40, but it is cheaper to shoot than .45. |
