I'm going to be in the market for my first .40. I would like the pistol to be all steel with a great rep.... any suggestions?

Thanks

If I were going to get an all steel pistol in .40 cal, I would look at trying to find a Sig P-229ST or P-226 ST model. Aside from those, the Smith&Wesson 4006 is a fairly decent pistol (not my favorite). I think the CZ series 40 cal pistols are steel framed, but I'm not sure.

Standard SIGs are aluminum-framed, FYI. As mentioned above, the ST variants are all stainless. Harder to find (and pricier), however.

The CZ75B and BHP are excellent steel-framed pistols, both available in .40S&W.

Out of curiosity, why all steel?

Because I have more poly handguns than steel, I think all steels guns are better looking and its only going to be a rangle gun.

To give a bit of background, I'm turning 40 in a few months and having my wife (Let) buy me .40 cal. would be a very cool gift.

So does it really just need to be metal framed?

As said above, a CZ75 would be an excellent choice.  They are steel but come in other finishes as well as stainless.  I think the .40sw stainless has ambi safety.

The closest to an all steel .40 I own is a beretta 96D with an aluminum frame. I have no first hand experence with the EAA witness, but I have a friend that swears by them and the price is right.

Smith 4006. I have 2 of them and they are friggin' fantastic! No stronger 40 ever made and it was the 1st gun designed ground up for the 40. A Sig 229 would be my 2nd choice.

Baby Eagle
CZ 75B
Browning HP

I think the Baby Eagle wins in the looks department.
And despite what most say, its easier to grab the slide than the CZ, which is more accurate in my opinion.

I have absolutely no use for the .40 S&W, but if I was to buy another one (I sold all mine and replaced them with 9mm's) it would be a Sig P229.  It was one of the few handguns that was actually designed for the 40 cal round, not a beefed up 9mm platform.

I have a 75 in .40 - the one from IMI as pictured above.  Mine is a Jericho 941F.

Any of the 75s are great.

Somewhat close to the CZ is the Baby Desert Eagle. It is manufactured by IMI and marketed in the US by the gold ol' folks that brought you the Desert Eagle.
