I'm going to purchase a new .380 pistol, and have narrowed my choices down to either the Bersa Thunder or the CZ-83.  I am well aware of the fact I can get a 9mm compact in a similar size, and I'm not interested in the LCP/Kel-Tec styles either.  I have unexpectantly acquired a lot of .380 ammo, and the intended use of my choice would occassional CCW and range time.

Just curious as to what opinions exist out there!

Thanks

I second he P230 - Mine is in stainless and easy to conceal because it is so flat..

From previous posts the P230, PPk and the Bersa are the most popular .380s (in no particular order)...

If you want a staunch reputation for reliability and quality at the most reasonable price in the entire .380ACP firearms market, only a fool would argue against the Bersa Thunder. It's simply the best choice out there, unless you need a teeny, tiny gun.

End of story.

I use to have a Beretta 84 that always went bang.  A little big for it's cal AFAIC, but a nice gun none the less.

Wow!.....thats quite an endorsement.  I have read nothing but good things about them as well, just makes me wonder why they are so inexpensive

The CZ83 looks like it is built like a tank, but it is 100.00 more....

Thanks for the replies

Either of your choices would be good. The CZ has a higher capacity but also a larger grip. Both are accurate and reliable. Pick whichever feels better to you. I prefer either of them to the Sig P230/P232 which I had and frankly wasn't impressed with.

If concealment isn't an issue, then there are a number of good options.

Personally I like the Beretta .380's quite a bit. They function and handle just like the Beretta 92 that I carried for a very long time. They are well made handguns. Beretta makes a double action .380 for Browning that is also very good.

The Sig P230 and P232 are nice pistols as well. I don't like them as much as the Beretta, but they are good pistols.

Colt's government model style .380s are also really nice pieces, albeit fairly expensive because Colt collectors buy the hell out of them.

Colt's "hammerless" semi-autos in .380 are interesting collector pieces. They are one of the most aesthetically beautiful handguns ever made, in my opinion.

Bersas have a decent reputation.

The CZ-83 is a military grade pistol, but I'm not terribly fond of them. The trigger kind of sucks on them and the ergonomics aren't ideal....that being said, they are still a very high quality weapon, just not my cup of tea.

I've got a Bersa -- it's a great gun, especially considering the price.  I would highly recommend it.  Accurate, reliable, and inexpensive.
