I have a M&P full size 9 mm . It is the Julie Golob Model , comes factory with fiber optic sights and some pink grips. The problem im having is i cant seem to get a consistant group and more times than not i am shooting way to the left . I also was woundering if this gun is suppose to have the trigger "Reset" . Mine does not have it , maybe there is something wrong with it ? How can i make this trigger pull  lighter . I read the DIY on polishing and filing but i'm not sure if i can do this .  Any one have any tips or suggestions

Shoot it, a lot.  Mine 5"Pro and my 4.25" didn't have much if any reset until I got about 1000 rounds through it.
If its still shooting left then might try it on a bag and see.  If it still is after that shift the rear sight to fix.

That or call S&W, I've had great customer service experience with them.

Try different back straps to correct the grip issue.
Apex parts will fix your trigger.

I have the smallest backstrap on right now . I just found the apex parts kit to bring it down to a 3 lb pull . Do you think this is the best route to go ?

I believe they also have a reset device. I added a full kit that had several parts. DCAEK or something.

here is the trigger job PDF....it's pretty easy if you're handy and have saome basic tools.

http://www.burwellguns.com/M&Ptriggerjob1.htm
If you're shots are cranking  left, at times, you probably need to work on your technique.

Dry fire the weapon, and watch the sights as the shot breaks
You want to press the trigger with the PAD of your finger.....the same part that you use to touch something.

Good advice.  I had an M&P that was shooting to the left and the problem turned out be me.

I have found that the M&P grips feel really good but are a little slipperier than Glocks, etc.  I haven't done it yet but am seriously considering doing the stipling on the M&P grips.

put another 200 rounds threw it tonight and still couldnt figure it out . I shoot my friends glocks and put really close groups together . I shoot his smith and wesson body gaurd and do better than what i can do with mine . I dont understand it . Ive never had so much trouble shooting in my life . My target with the M&P looks like im shooting everywhere but the bullseye. I tried adjusting the rear sight but couldnt get it to move

You can get excellent results by just working on the sear only.   You can go even further if you want but I found that the DIY sear job was enough for me.  If you don't want to mess with it, I've had good results with just changing out the stock sear for an APEX one.

Inspect the muzzle crown and barrel chamber on your pistol for any burrs or problems.   Next time you go to the range, have someone else shoot your pistol and see how their groups look.

Do a lot of dry firing with your pistol in a safe place.  Get some snap caps and next time you go to the range, load a mag with two or three loaded randomly amongst live ammo.  See what your pistol does when you get to the snap cap.

Update : I took the whole gun apart and decided to attempt the trigger job .

I cut the sear and polished it , polished the trigger bar and striker . I did do something wrong because the trigger pull is not as smooth as it can be , but i have the trigger pull just under 3 lbs and now i can shoot the gun so much better . Before it wouldnt even look like i was trying to make a group . Now i have 2 inch x 2 inch groups at 10 yards . I am very happy but i think im going to order the apexi sear to fix the smoothness issue .

DCAEK and RAM solves all. Buttery smooth and perfect break.

I have the M&P 9 and 9c.  I was shooting left as well.  It was me.

I added a bicycle inner tupe strap over the smallest grip insert.  Instant gratification...

When I dry-fire, I get zero movement on the sights when my trigger finger is dragging the trigger guard.  Stabilizer maybe?  I dunno.
I used the same method at the range.  Instant gratification...

Factory triggers in both.  I have the DCAEC (or whatever) kit and will put it in when I feel like it.  Haven't felt like it yet.

Does anyone know how many lbs the trigger is with the apex sear ?

I was close to trading my M&P for a glock or something because i couldnt shoot it . It also doesnt help that i have tiny hands ! The smallest backstrap is barely small enough.

I was so excited to get m M&P. I shot one at a range and loved the ergo's and trigger was good. Got mine in and the trigger sucks. Feels like something on a toy gun to me.  Not even close to any othe firearm I own.  Only has a few hundred rounds through it, so hopefully round count will make it improve. It's just aggravating, why should I need to buy aftermarket parts for a new gun?  The reset is total junk.  There is a small bump just before the trigger resets and it constantly makes me pull the trigger too soon.  Im use to my Glocks and other pistols that actually have a noticeable reset.  I may order the APEX part for the reset and see what happens. Or just get rid of it.

I have no reset ! I shot a M&P 45 today owned by my buddy . The gun was issued to him by the FBI . The trigger on it was amazing ! I need a reset on mine ! How do i get one ?

The FBI issues Glocks in .40 S&W or Springfield 1911 .45's to SWAT.  His pistol wasn't an M&P.

Older M&Ps had almost no detectable reset.  Later production guns are better.  Either way, in fast, practical, combat-style shooting, the lack of reset wasn't a problem.

Maybe he wasn't FBI my buddy who works at the range though he was . But he was issued this gun and it was a .45 . It also had a safety which i haven't seen on the m & ps. Im getting better with my 9mm even though the trigger is a little messed up . I just want a light trigger pull and a noticeable short reset .

Yes! I just did it and wow I love it. I'm still having issues but the issues are mine and not the gun's.

Just shoot a bunch. Dry fire a bunch. Get a good feel for the good and what every move feels like.

My husband did my gun while I was at work. I'm not sure if he had any trouble.

I'll have him hit this thread when he gets up

I love my trigger now. There is a definite reset.

Hey, I'm SPJ's husband.

When I installed her striker stop (firing pin safety, or whatever you call it) her sight tapped out easily. Holding the pistol pointing away from you, tap it from left to right, as soon as it starts to move use the tool included in the kit to slide it the rest of the way out. Then put your finger on the right side of the tool and slowly pull the tool out while you catch the plunger and spring. Reverse the process to re-install. Her sights moved very easily after the set screw was loosened.

Some M&P rear sights are VERY difficult to move after the screw has been backed out.

Mine was a real pain and others here chimed in with having the same issue.

Yes.  We knew the correct direction and still had trouble.

Some are easily moved.  Some aren't.

If the gun is really too big for you, perhaps a single stack is in order.
