Friend approached me about his grandfather's Colt 1911 which he has in a safety deposit box.  I have never dealt with 1911s so I couldn't help.

He says it is in the original packaging with a cleaning kit, holster and bullets issued to his grandfather in WWII.  Apparently this grandfather never opened it and of course never fired it.

I was trying to find a price for this type, but just got lost in the sea of the search engine.  Can anyone direct me to the best place to check this for my buddy?

You will need to see the gun in person first off. To many a 1911 is a Colt no matter what! But it could be a Remington Rand, Ithaca, US&S or one of the other makers in WWI. It could also be a reworked model as well. Try to get some pictures of it and the box.
