Help!!!!!  I was sitting here getting ready to take my new USP tactical to the range for its first outing. I decided well let me strip it apart and run a few patches thru the barrel before I go.  So I pull out the trusty owners manual and follow the directions.  Heres where I encounter problems.  I retract the slide to allow the recess and the slide lever to align.  I push with my not holding hand on the axel from the right side and the fucker wont move.  Are there any tricks Im missing? I've been doing this for about 35 mins now my fingers are raw and I am ever so pissed.  I'm about ready to take a hammer to the freaking thing.  Please help me b4 I damage my new pistol.

Line up the notch on the slide with the slide lock lever...

If you can't push it out like that, get a punch, and a hammer, and give it a little smack.

It will pop right out.  Only trick is doing that with 2 hands...

Do you have the magazine out? Is the pistol cocked?

Neither of those would impact getting the slide lock out.  And based on how the gun takes apart, the hammer can only be in one position.

A while ago, I bought a polymer trigger/hammer pin punch from Adco Firearms.

Cost a whole 2$ I think.

Turns out it has the perfect diameter for the slide lock hole.

Works like a charm.

Thanks guysfor the advise.  Im gonna use the punch method with the wifes help.  I was concerned that I was doing something wrong and didnt want to damage my new pistol by using a hammer and punch.  But that seems like the popular consenus on taking care of it so wish me luck.

I've never had to use a punch on any USP.

 Something just doesn't sound right.

You might want to have your dealer look at it before you start wacking it with a hammer.

I can't honestly think of a single part on this gun that would get damaged from blow from a hammer or a punch.

If you start tapping it with mild force, and it doesn't pop out, then something might be wrong.  Just make sure its aligned properly, and tap it.  It really shouldn't take much, just a little "pop" to break it loose.  The slide releases can be a bit tight from the factory.  My USP .40, USP Tac, and MK23 were all tight when I got them.  The only one that didn't take any force was my P2000.

On the guns with the match triggers the slide release is a little hard to push out.  I use an AR-15 plastic take down pin punch to push mine out.  You do not need a hammer but a helper can sure be handy to push the pin out when you have the other parts lined up.  The USP's and the Compact's slide release are easily pushed out, but my Tacs, Expert, and Elite are quite hard to push out and I must use some tool to get a little more push.  Do not use steel because you are sure to slip and scratch your pistol.  Get a plastic or wooden punch to help push it out.

Ok thanks for the help I got it apart.  I used a wood dowel the same size as the pin and it slid out fine. Wish I knew that before I damaged 3 of my finger tips.   Its all clean clean again thanks for all fo your help.
