Was there a type of Hi Power that had a serial number for the frame and slide, but a different serial number for the barrel?

I saw a Browning Hi Power, Belgian, Mk II with the rib on top of the slide, parkerized, that had serial number on the front of grip strap and same serial number on slide, but with a different shorter serial number on the barrel.  Pistol looked new or almost unused.  Made in mid '80s iirc.

Guessing it's a substitute/replaced barrel, but the pistol looked so "correct" that it got me wondering if there was a type, military contract maybe, with two serial numbers like that for some reason.

Sounds like a replacement barrel to me.  I've never seen anything other than the same serial suffix on a FN or Browning gun.

Thanks for the reply.  I had not seen a Hi-Power that did not have matching serial numbers.  This Mk II was the first mis-match.

The barrel on your pistol is a mis-match. Some MKIIs had the traditional "in the white" (stainless) barrel, while others had the barrel parked to match the rest of the pistol. I bet the different barrel doesn't affect the shootability of the pistol! Take it to the range and shoot the hell out of it.

Pistol might be worth more since it's a ultra-rare Browning HP Mk II mis-match!
