| Anyone have any input on Hi-point's handguns? My dad bought a 9mm yesterday and it was cheap. Kind of heavy, but feels good. We are going to go shoot it this weekend. Just wondering what their reputation is, I may go buy one myself. |

you get what you pay for....for $100, they are decent throw/plinker guns...a gun i would trust my life to? only if it were the only one i had
they are blocky, heavy, trigger sucks, sights suck, sometimes work (even moreso than other SNS), and are warrantied up the ass |

Quoted: Only fucking commies hate on Hi Point............ All Steel American Made Gun. Except for the rest of it, which is plastic... and crappy plastic at that. If that's all you can afford and you need one now, go for it. If you can spare a bit more, get something better... and just about anything is better... |

I own the carbine, but wish I never bought it. A 9mm that hold 10rds in the grip= It does work decent and I got it balls cheap like a year or more ago. If I was going to spend 150 on a gun, I would go to my local shop and look for something cool and old and probably in .22lr or a small caliber. |

There fine pistols, but make sure you clean them.
If you have more $ there's more options. Here's a list of good cheap guns IMO, yes there not as good as any full priced pistol but would work fine as long as there clean. High-point C-9, Kel Tec PF9, FEG Browning Clone, Tokarev in 9 if its for protection, Charter Arms (same company as highpoint) Taurus are ok but there made if southamerica so no warranty, Ruger-P95, Star's etc. There all fine, most of the bad press comes from people disgusted by the lower quality compared to 500+ dollar guns. If it is for defense make sure it doesn't jam when clean with good ammo. Some of those don't work well with hollow point's so you may want to get corbon pow'rball's. Any big issue's is were the warranty or gunsmith come's in, useless it's when you needed it. So if you have more money get something better like others said Glock, M&P, XD, maybe a SR9, Kimber etc |
And here is another one being made and so on . . . In 2005, I said they were steaming piles of ^%^$^%%. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=171862 And in 2010, they still are steaming piles of ^%^$^%%. Sorry man but Hi-Points are mopeds http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f65/high-point-handguns-689277/ http://seattle.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel10/se021710.htm http://newark.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel10/nk041510.htm http://newhaven.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel09/nh110509.htm In just a few minutes, I pulled several FBI press releases on bangers carrying Hi-Points. Hi-Point is not alone. Intratec, Lorcin and so forth. There are several gun manufacturers in the Valley around LA making the same quality and price point - Bryco, Jennings, Davis, Phoenix Arms (making almost 9% of all shortbarreled handguns in 1999). http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/vprp/pdf/man&denied.pdf Friends don't let friend carry those. Use it for truck or tackle box or a range gun. But that's it. |

And now it's OFFICIALLY a poop thread, instead of just figuratively... ![]() |

Sorry to be so harsh on the Hi-Point line.
However, we are on a forum were even a .22lr AR-15 will run you $500 plus dollars and for a .223 AR-15, what $750? I know there is a market, hopefully legal, for those inexpensive guns. http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles/ayoob62.html However, anything with all of the risk of kabooms, a bad round from the factory, ill-maintained CNC machines, there is a lot to go wrong and a gun could turn grenade in a heartbeat. I had a friend shooting my Glock 21 and a brass case failed, fired out of battery and only the magazine lost its spring and end cap and I replaced a $10 part and it is back in business. In a gun with less hardened metal, I fear he could have bit it and it could have torn up his thumb or shooting hand. Guns are dangerous and shooting ill-designed or poorly constucted gun is very risky. If there were such a deal and safe, you'd see police departments across America packing Hi-Points. They don't for a reason. I want to support all gun manufacturers because I believe in the Second Amendment. But this is different. If you want affordable better quality guns, look to Kel Tec. They actually make some decent 32 acp, 380, and 9mm handguns. $200 and yes, you'll need to fluff and buff them. maybe one trip back to the factory. BUT they have been working for lots of us. Or step up to a Ruger - built like tanks and are used bya few LEAs. The Star Firestars can also be had in the $330 range. A guy already mentioned the FEG Hi-Power clone. Arcus also made a nice clone. A South African company made the TZ-99 a clone of the Sig P226 and I stupidly did not buy one. All on the affordable side. Just be safe not sorry. |

For one, they don't tend to auto disassemble..... |
