Am I missing something here? http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-GI.shtml I see these at gun shows and they do not appear to sell and when they do, they go cheap. Are these just not popular or do they not run well? It would seem a decent 14 round 1911 backed with lifetime warranty by a company with good customer service (unlike Para-Ord) would sell the hell out of these. Anybody own one - are mags available? |

i owned one. wasn't a "bad" pistol exactly. the thing is, it is REALLY wide. everytime i shot it, it just wacked the hell out of my hand. not at all like a normal 1911. so much so that it was uncomfortable to shoot. granted, i don't have the biggest hands in the world, but i can handle a glock 30 just fine. something about the springfield hicap just never was much fun shooting to me. and did i mention super heavy? oh, and trust me, i wanted to like it SOOOOO bad......sure looked badass... |

Para Ordnance does a better job of marketing to those who want a steel doublestack 1911. The SA widebody is kind of a red-headed stepchild clone of the Para. And ShamusMcOi is right, it does feel like a real 2x4 in your hand. The Paras feel a little better. The sad thing is that Robbie Leatham has shot a tricked-out version of this gun for years but the only one SA sells is the stripped down GI model. I can't help but think they'd make a boatload of money selling the same gun that he uses to people who aspire to shoot as well as he does. After all, they sell the TGO single stacks, not that I see anyone buying them. |
