Anyone own one?  How reliable is it?  Would it be a good pistol for a beginner to practice with?  I like 1911s by the way..

High Standards are made the same place as Charles Daly and RIA.

That means the Phillipines.  The question is however, are they any good.  I own a Kimber but was thinking of picking up a High Standard for WWII re-enacting and general shooting fun, whats the word?

The current batches of RIA are getting good reviews, don't really know about the Charles Daly or the High Standard, but if they're being built to the same standard as RIA they should be ok.

I have no personal experiance with High Standard and my personal experiance with RIA and Charles Daly were not favorable.

High Standard and RIA both are from Armscor. I believe the Charles DAly is not related anymore. At least that is what Ray at Armscor told me.

RIAs get good reviews, and if it's a total POS, you can always flog it to some mall ninja for about the same you paid for it.

Not bad.  I got mine for $380.00 brand new.  It isn't a colt, but it works.
