So finally, after months and moths of telling my brother he should buy a better holster, he is finally listening to me. We talked about what he wanted in a holster, but I cannot think of any company that makes what he is looking for.
He has a Dan Wesson V-Bob (4 1/4" 1911) that he appendix carries. He is currently using this holster:
It's the Desantis "Pro-Stealth" holster. He did clip the stitching on the mag holder to remove it, so it is strictly a gun-only holster now. He likes that it is very slim and low-profile, and the clip makes it easy-on, easy-off. He doesnt like the loops like my Versa-Max II has, as he thinks they are too bulky.
He is having a problem though. When he sits, he feels the hammer / beaver-tail pressing against his abdomen. I don't think he wears and undershirt between him and the gun (like I do), and the fact that the holster doesn't have a body-shield means that he is able to feel all the steel against him.
I carry my 5" 1911, in my Versa-Max II, with an undershirt, and I feel no discomfort when sitting, and I carry appendix too (Yes, I am aware the Versa-Max is not designed for that, but it works for me). I sit at work all day. I think between the body-shield and the undershirt, I have some material preventing the hammer and beaver-tail from digging in.
He is my build, but taller. About 6'2 and 160 pounds, so he is a rather slim guy.
What he wants, is something of the same design, but made of leather, and with a body shield. He also said he doesn't like the "stiff" leather like my Versa-Max II is. And he wants black if possible. Oh, and he said NO KYDEX.
The only thing I can think of that fits the bill is the Bianchi "Proffesional", but that only comes in the tan. Is it possible to dye it black?
