I am getting a handgun for home defense use. I've owned a number of guns for years but these were longarms and rimfire pistols. I have shot a number of other people's pistols but not enough to form many opinions about them, and I just never got around to buying one myself, until now.

The pistol I'm looking at is a G19, by the by. I wanted a double-stack capacity, and the 45's were a bit fatter than ideal for me.

Also: I live in a no-carry state, so that is not an issue--this gun is only the "nightstand gun", and the occasional practice use. I plan on moving toa  carry state but I'd most-likely get something else for that anyway--even if just a second of the same model of pistol.

....The first thing I wanted was the tritium sights, these just seem to make sense and don't interfere with daytime use anyway. I dunno what brand the shop has, but they will mount them for free if I get them at the same time as the gun.
....The second thing was to get a tac flashlight with a grip ring, and always keep it with the gun.
[-both the above are pretty certain-]

The third (possible) accessory is a light on the gun itself (Streamlight TLR-1 in particular). I rather like the idea of having a "backup light" on board, but I don't know if these things interfere with any other functions or not, in actual practice.

Anyone find them good or bad, under these use conditions?
And is there anything else I should consider?

Having shot with a tac light and a TLR-1 I like the TLR 1 but you have to remember if your enemy has a weapon, he's gonna aim for that light so you have to realize you are taking a risk.

I've got a TLR-1, it's a good light.

In regards to the Tritium sights, go with something quality (Meprolight, Trijicon, etc) and make certain that they're installed with the proper sight tool, and not smacked in there with a hammer.

night sights is good to have on any SD/HD/PD gun

as to a light....one of those is great also--2 is better, one on the gun and one personal

+1 for the TLR-1--great light for the money; heck, LApolicegear.com had em for ~$88 a few days ago...

just practice w/ what ever setup you decide on, but both options you already have in mind are good imo

FWIW: the older M3s work great also, and the surefire x200 is another great HG light

The big down side to a weapon mounted tac light is that in order to light them up, you end up pointing a loaded weapon at them.  Not ideal if you are running on a major adreniline rush and have a family member that is in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Stick to the hand held light for the nightstand gun. G19 is a great choice and should serve you well.
