I picked one up today on a whim, just wating 10 days... It's my first 1911, and I thought I was buying an excellent mid-high end pistol. Poking around on here, it looks like I didn't make the best possible choice.

Is the TC II plagued by problems like so many other Kimbers seem to be? What should I look out for?

I own 3 Glocks, and I've never had a single malfunction with any of them. I just hope the trend continues with this gun.

I have a Custom II and never had a single problem with it. Eats ball and HP with no trouble. Very accurate too. After a couple of years I "resprung" it just to have an excuse to take it down. I think you'll be fine with it. No matter what gun it is in conversation, someone will have shit to say about it.

You will probably start buying more of them after you have had a chance to try it out.

You'll be fine!

Oh..... congrats!

My TC II gives me fits but I'm getting it ironed out.  A friend of mine has two Kimbers that run just fine.

Tactical Custom II is aluminum frame I believe.  A little lighter.  External extractor, isn't it?  You should be fine.  Take it out for a spin, let us know how it runs.

My Kimber Custom II gave me the opportunity to learn about extractor tension.  But it's good to learn how to make things run, and it's been fine ever since.

the kimber Tac does have a lighweigth AL frame

new ones and really old ones have the internal extractors

OP: dont 2nd guess yourself...you made a very good choice--shoot it, and chances are, it will work fine

I got one second hand in 9mm off this site.  The original owned used to compete with it as I do now.  He had put a sprinco recoil guide rod on it.  Less recoil and wear on the frame.  Mine is very accurate and has never failed me.

I had one a couple of yeas ago, It had the external extractor. It never jammed and shot great. The 20lpi checkering was too rough for my taste, I like 30lpi better. But it was a great gun I sold it on this site and the buyer commented on how accurate it was.

I bought mine a couple of weeks ago and have put about 250 rounds through it without a problem. So far very reliable and accurate. the 1911 is very easy to point and be on target without much effort. I dont think you will regret this.

Use decent ammo.

You'll buy more now... get ready to sell a Glock or two   :)

There are some major haters of MIM, which Kimber uses, but it is fine. Really.

I had one i bought it used, but it developed problems, mainly stove pipes so i switched ammo and mags and it still did it like every 5 rounds. i changed the extractor spring, hell every spring. Long story short i traded it and 400$ for a desert warrior and am very satisfied with the desert warrior. But I want another kimber and i think it might be a tactical custom Pro. Kimbers are great pistols hands down.

Long live the 1911, because plastic belongs in the Kitchen.

I bought a tactical custom II about 2 years ago and yes, I love it. It was my first 1911. I own a sig, glocks, xd, hk, walther, ect, ect,ect....... I am in love with the ergos of the 1911 so much that I am stoked on buying another one soon. I looked at the springfields and come to the conclusion my next one will be another Kimber. My Tac II was finicky when new with a couple stove pipes probably due to the fact that she was very tight from the factory when new and I may have been limp wristing it also. I really oiled her up good and pumped about 300 rounds through her and now she has fed and extracted everything I put through her without a hickup. Now after such a long time I know what all the rant is about 1911's, they just feel like an extention of my hand and point so naturally. Accuracy is so good I seem to impress the hell out of myself everytime I shoot her. My next Kimber I want to be in .357 sig but I will have to see if Kimber can offer this one for me or I will have to buy a .40 and get a barrel. I wont count out a 10mm either. I just think the 10 will be a little overkill and not feed like a bottleneck  .357 If anyone has the 10, e-mail me and tell me how you like her. Thanx and thank the guys at Kimber for making such a fine ass pistol.
