ive decided to fall into e rabbit hole of the 1911...and I have no idea where to really begin. Any help from you guys would be much appreciated. I'm on a bit of a tight budget due to my wife and I having a disagreement on what a full gun safe looks like, however I'd rather buy right the first time.

Not sure what my goal really is other than owning a nice 1911 for a reasonable price. I'm not sure I'll ever switch my daily carry from my g19, but who knows.

I was really impressed with the newer Dan Wesson 1911's and ended up buying a blemish Valor off gunbroker.com for $1400. My first 1911 was a Springfield Loaded for around $800 and it was a great one to start with. But the Valor is a much more refined gun, it's closer to the custom guns in terms of quality. Or you could pick up a Dan Wesson Heritage model for around $1000. I also like the Springfield Mil-Spec for $600 if you're short on cash and like the more old-school original look.

Well you didn't specify a budget, but for anything under $1000, a springfield range officer is hard to beat.

If I was looking for a 1911, this is the one I would buy right now.

Without a budget, tough to say, but that is an excellent option.

The Springfield Mil Spec,@ $600 or so,would be a really good choice.Forged frame,series 70 pistol.
Mine has ran 100%.Have owned it over a dozen years now.

Wow. I'm overwhelmed already my budget would probably be that sub $1,000. But I hate passing up a good deal, so if I found a $2,500 gun for say, $2,000...I'd make it work and pray my wife just doesn't shoot me with it when she gets the cc bill.
End use would most likely be a safe queen, possibly truck gun...but also figure there's a reason they are so popular for carry guns as well, so if I found something that carried well is probably give it a shot on my hip.

Well, that and a lowered ejection port, in my mind.

This is one reason that I promote the Colt Wiley Clapp Government model so much; it's just such a damned fine pistol, and now that the price has dropped below $1300, it's even better. Considering that the above Colt is just a hair under $1K, and for about $260 more, you can get a WCG, it's a no-brainer to me.

Anything Springfield or current production Colt.

Just picked up a Colt Series 70 Reproduction myself and to say I'm impressed with the workmanship would be a gross understatement. I paid $1275 otd for the gun, 400rds of assorted ammunition, and two extra Wilson 47D mags. Plenty for a break in and some fun.

Adding;
Your first 1911 needs to be a 5" government model. Save the commanders and officers for later, and rid yourself of the headache of getting a short 1911 to run.

Stick with an internal extractor model as well.

And stay away from Kimber.
