I was looking at a new Glock 36 today. It seems to be a handy carry gun. I admit I am hesitant with the Glock system in that it cannot be thrown into a pocket, glove compartment or otherwise treated like a truck gun. it screams to be always in a holster. That how I see it anyways.
Again, it does appear to be handy and trustworthy.
What options compete? Light, needs no 'work', reliable, 45, easy to carry / leather options. Compact.

A lot of people say the HK45c owns this category.

I really want one in LEM (dehorned)

I'd opt for the better all metal night sights...  and would suggest a kydex holster with a protective skin flap over leather for the Florida weather...I carry a SureFire 6P with Malkoff upgrade for a hand held rather than pistol mounted light

Handheld here too. Z2's.
Vendor showed me a fobus holster with his Glock single stack and frankly I am more accustom to IWB.

not a truck gun, a few folks would argue that one with you.

i carry a g30, 10+1 instead of 6+1 in the 36.

Really like the Colt Defender with a Cross Breed holster

The Glock 30 is tough CCW to beat in .45acp. It's a holster gun when 10+1.

If I were putting a handgun with one in the pipe anywhere in my car/truck, I think I'd want it in a holster. So, I don't see any reason why the 36 wouldn't work for that. Other good options for compact .45s would be the M&P45c and USP45c/HK45c.

I have a Sig P220 Carry and a Kahr P45...both have been flawless. The only downside is capacity, 9 rds with the 220 and 7 rds with the Kahr.

The G30 had horrible ergos compared to these, for me.

HK45c, Sig 220 Compact, or M&Pc

220 compact. Interesting but double / single. Hmm, the 225 was a nice fit for me for a short time but that system does not send me.
Capacity in the 45, six makes me happy. Just so long as I never again have a 380 in my hand,...
eta; I like a single stack.

Best compact .45 I ever owned

My favorite compact 45 is the S&W 4553.  Thin, light, DAO, stainless steel slide, aluminum frame and very easy to shoot for a DAO pistol.  The bad news is you'd have to find a used one, but the good news is S&W made a lot of them.  The one in the picture is the TSW model.

Bingo.
My 3913 was quality. I am sure this is too.

This is the one I'd choose if I wanted a compact 45.

I have two compact 45s,  one is the hk45c and it is awesome.  The other is a colt new agent, it is also awesome..

PM45, a little to big for pocket carry, cargo pocket maybe. Run your times, a IWB holster is seconds faster than a pocket carry, esp in the size range of a Compact 45 acp.

I had a 36, and it was OK, but I just never warmed up to it.

Now I wish I had an HK 45c to go with my full size HK 45.

But that's crazy money I don't want to spend right now.

I'd suggest an HK 45C  in a TT Gunleather Stronghold Phoenix IWB holster.
