I want a 1911.  They are awesome.  I'm broke .  However, I am going to get one, if it kills me.  I've been researching for a while, and I like the Springfield Loaded (Park'd).  Unfortunately, the cheapest I've seen one of those for is about $700.00 or so.  I see RIA's going for <$400 on Gunbroker, and my curiosity is piqued.  Is it worthwhile to get a less expensive model, or is the Springfield really the least expensive one that will actually work?  Also, I refuse to get a Taurus, before anyone jumps on that one.  All the research I've done on the company indicates that their products tend to be shoddy, and their customer service is really abysmal.  Thanks all.

I also would look at the Springfield MilSpec. The go for about $550-599 around here. My first 1911 was a stainless Springer Milspec. Excellent pistol! At one point I convinced myself I needed all the bells and whistles, so I sold it and bought a Kimber Custom II. I liked the kimber but after shooting both extensively I prefered the Springfield. I recently sold the Kimber and bought a Colt commander. I couldn't be happier.

Don't know if this helps, but that is my experiences.

owned em all mentioned (PT1911, SA Loaded, and RIA)...imo, i believe the SA Loaded or mil-spec is the way to go

the RIAs are pretty decent firearms that tend to work reliably; h/w, its quality of materials tend to be called into question sometimes...imo, you might be better off spending a little more and opting for a SA milspec/GI

now, the Loaded is kinda in its own little category being more customized (factory of course) vs a old-school GI/mil-spec setup––for this, its well worth the asking price imo, esp vs the PT1911s, etc

I got it too.

My first 1911 was a Kimber TLE II I got used for about 600.
Once you go 1911... there is nothing else!

In my opinion:

Kimber=great stuff!
Springfield=mil-spec good....
RIA=not bad....
Taurus=Brazilian crap but they look cool :P

Ill keep my Kimber.

For the price, get the SA milspec.
I have a SA loaded and a modified SA milspec GI, and I love both firearms.

SA's are forged, RIA I have heard good things about but I heard they are cast...

If I'm wrong please correct me.
