| Absolutely killer MJohn! headbang.gif May I please have the apropriate specs on that weapon? How much did she set you back? Exactly what I'm looking for, the only thing I'd do to make it mine would be to add Novak or adjustable night sights. You're giving me hope man, keep my dream alivehippie.gif |
It is a Springfield Mil-Spec. Cost about $520 for the gun, then another $100 for the parts. Chip McCormick: Hammer, Sear, Trigger, Slim-grip Rosewood grips Kings grip saftey. |
Did you install them your self or have a smitty do it? If you installed them your self, should a novice like my self attempt to do it? By the way you guys are Awesome, an unbelievable help! P.S. the SA Mil Spec is comatable with Novak and other sights right? |
I did it myself. I had no prior 1911 knowledge before I did it. I got a manual and just figured it out. It took some time, but I figured it out. The Mil-spec has to be altered to accept Novak sights I believe. |
I did the exact same thing with mine, installing the parts myself as well. I took it a step further, and got rid of that stupid ILS system in the mainspring housing. Good lookin' pistol you have! Of course, now I need to replace my sights. That cheap-o staked front sight has come loose. |
| You could get the Springfield MilSpec, then get a few key part upgrades (Wilson Bulletproof extractor and firing pin stop, then wait 'till something goes wrong (which almost always happens with an SA, usually because of the cheap extractors they use) then SA will take the gun back (shipping paid both ways), at that time ask for some upgrades in their shop (which you'll have to pay for but they do decent work, the prices are good and you get free shipping. Now you can whatever you can have the extractor and firing pin stop fitted and tuned, plus any other upgrade you can afford e.g. Novak sights a beavertail and hammer, or have the MilSpec hammer bobbed, hard steel sear, paint job, etc. Once you get it back, put in a Wilson BulletProof slide stop. |

| OK tough guyhisisn't crap! My impresion of ererybody here: "SA-sucks...Kimber-sucks...Para-sucks...Colt-sucks" Why don't you tell me what doesn't suck besides dream guns like Les Baer and Ed Brown. C'mon guys don't be so negative! But seriously what's your shooter pick MonkeyGrip? |
Heh, heh. Funny that you come all the way over here to argue with me. Got under your skin, didn't it? |
Stop trolling and stop flattering yourself. I was skimming the handgun's forum and saw the topic, which interested me. The topic is of interest to me. You are most certainly not. ETA: If you'd gotten under my skin, I wouldn't respond to any of your threads. You are of no importance to me, as I have no respect for you whatsoever. |
Good to hear we have something in common. Maybe in the future you'll learn some reading comprehension. |
And maybe in the future you'll learn some class and manners. But I doubt it. |
I made an honest statement out of SYMPATHY for your wife, because of YOUR actions. Get that through your head and we'll get along a lot better. |
What you need to get through your head is this: STOP trolling me in other threads. If you want to discuss this, go back to the thread in which you originally insulted my family and do it there. Leave it out of the handgun forums or any other forum. If you can muster up the class and manners to do so. |
Rock River Arms? |
The frames on all SA, Kimbers and Colts are all forged which is good. It's the parts where they try to save money. Unfortunately to deliver the fancy parts and features that sell guns, like beavertails, exended thumb safeties and Novak like sights at a reasonable price, gunmakers have to make these parts of MIM or cast steel which are much cheaper but have higher failure rates than the same parts made from machined forgings or bar stock. Colts use good parts and thus are generally 100% relaible from the box. I learned this the hard way by first buying Kimber, then Springfield then two Colts. Colts however lack desirable features like non-biting hammers, beavertails, non-sharp sights, and the edges are left unbeveled. You probably won't find a new Colt for $700 anymore though, they've become expensive as hell. Kimbers and the SA loaded line have the features that sell but use cheaper parts than Colts. Just look at the Springfield and Kimber forums at 1911forum.com and you'll see a lot of problems with guns. Most of the problems are with extractors (a weekness of the 1911). This is why Kimber recently deviated from the 1911 design by switching to an external extractor. My suggestion for your price is to get an SA and repalce the parts that are likely to give you grief thus avoiding a lot of potential aggrevation. Again, now might be a good time to look at some of the post at 1911forum.com to see what many people are going through with their SAs and Kimbers, but which can likely be avoided by replaceing a few parts. Why don't you look for a Springfield loaded Champion (no front serrations), or live the serrations of the SA full size loaded or if you don't want the serrations, get the SA MilSpec and get some upgrades on like I said. The extractor is your most likely source of problems and probably only cost SA a few dollars. The firing pin stop holds the extractor in and a good one has to be fit in thus avoiding movement of the extractor. I got a SA loaded model and the extractor and slide stop failed to work properly within a month. I got quality steel Wilson Bulletproof replacement parts and had the SA custom shop fit the them, and I've had no problems since. The Novak rear sight fell off, as they commonly do on the SAs but I "glued" it back on with loctite. I would look at the SA loaded Chamopion. It doesn't have front cocking serrations, and the commander size is proven relaible and is convenient for carry....then get a good extractor. |
I also think they are ugly, but they serve a purpose if one uses that method of press checking. You many want to consider the SA Mil-Spec, shoot it a little, decide what it really needs/what you really want, and send it to Wilson Combat for the work. Or, SA Custom Shop makes a Custom Carry: www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-cust.shtml |
I never use them on my SA Loaded, but I dont mind them that much. I would like to have a gun that didn't have them if given a choice. I also wish SA would not make the serrations so blasted sharp! My fingertips are raw after a trip to a range from racking the slide.
|
They may be "good" frames but AFIK only the Colt and Kimber are U.S. made. |
This is again exactly what I want. Love the vertical rear slide serations. Can you give me the specs so well...I can have one too? Thanks man, killer weapon! |
That is a purty 1911. I like the frips and front strap. Who did it? S.O. |

May I please have the apropriate specs on that weapon? How much did she set you back? Exactly what I'm looking for, the only thing I'd do to make it mine would be to add Novak or adjustable night sights. You're giving me hope man, keep my dream alive
Get a grip on this MonkeyGrip, why don't you tell me the short list of what isn't crap!
