Towards the end of last year Ted and Lew and I sat around the shop tossing ideas back and forth at just how we could improve on our products. The conversation ranged from sights, to ignition sets, to safeties, to even holsters but soon enough we began to re-examine the 1* packages. For sure the 1* has become a mainstay at the shop and without question it’s the gun people ask us about the most, and with good reason. The guns simply work, are a proven formula, and we believe offer the end user some of the best dollar to gun value around. So how could we make these packages better, how about offering more for the same money?

The one thing we all decided that the 1* and 1* Enhanced needed was a front strap treatment so we decided to add serrations to the list of mods’. The guns leaving the shop now will all have front straps that look something like this…

For the 1* Elites which already get a serrated front strap they’ll now receive a hand fit frame and slide.

One last bit of good news comes in the sight department, the shooters of these guns now have a choice between the Novak sights already available on the 1* series as well as our new Professional Grade sights while still retaining the “1*” logo as seen here...

Pretty good stuff if you ask me...

Figures.  I sent my Colt in this time last year and missed out on the front strap treatment.  Ah well, I have another Colt 70 Series that plans to make the trip out west.  You guys keep up the good work.

Wow...a work meeting that really pays off.

Cannot wait for mine to get finished.

The 1* is already a super great deal, with lots of detail.

"For the 1* Elites which already get a serrated front strap they’ll now receive a hand fit frame and slide".

I purchased two 1* Elites built on SA G.I.s about 9 months ago. The frame to slde fit seems fine. At the time I purchased mine were you not doing a hand fit frame and slide?

Thank you.

Not as a standard item. A hand fit frame and slide can be fairly labor intensive and since we added serrations to the front strap of the 1* and 1* Enhanced we had to up the anti on the Elites as well to keep the playing field level.

This was actually something we wanted to do for a while but it unfortunately gets put on the back burner sometimes when life and other shop business come into play.

We pulled some guns together, looked them over, and racked or brains on what more we could offer the users of these guns and far and away the one thing we all thought they deserved was a useable front strap treatment. Many would prefer checkering and others would prefer stippling, still some would prefer it be bald but in the end run these guns are built for one purpose and we hope to enhance their usability with these new standard additions.

Soon enough I’ll have a using piece set up pretty similar to the 1* Elite that I will be doing some extensive testing and a good general flogging to try and really test the limits of the gun. I suspect that I will tire long before the piece... I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

Cool!  I've got a Springfield Champion Lightweight up there now for the 1*.  Can I get the serrations and the Professional sight added to my gun?

Thanks!

I really like that serration pattern.  I wasn't sure if serrations would give a secure enough grip, but I was lucky enough to find a LW Commander Ted did with this very same frontstrap treatment.  It gives a secure grip without grabbing your clothing like checkering, and looks very classy as well.
