Anyone know the details of the state of Indiana Carry Licenses??

I am an Illinois resident but will be working in Indiana for the summer (3 months) and was wondering if I could obtain a carry license while there?

Not  sure on the legality of it, how ever right now the wait is around 12 week minimum just to process, so you would probably be gone  before you ever got it.

Indiana does give non-resident licenses to people who have a place of business in Indiana, but I'm not sure what defines a "place of business". If you're lucky, you might be able to get a license that's still valid after you leave the state. Won't help you in IL but there are many states besides Indiana that recognize their non-resident license as valid.

IC 35-47-2-3
Application for license to carry handgun; procedure
Sec. 3. (a) A person desiring a license to carry a handgun shall apply:
       (1) to the chief of police or corresponding law enforcement officer of the municipality in which the applicant resides;
       (2) if that municipality has no such officer, or if the applicant does not reside in a municipality, to the sheriff of the county in which the applicant resides after the applicant has obtained an application form prescribed by the superintendent; or
       (3) if the applicant is a resident of another state and has a regular place of business or employment in Indiana, to the sheriff of the county in which the applicant has a regular place of business or employment.

Can also obtain a non-resident permit from any state that will issue you one, as Indiana recognizes all permits for non-IN residents.  If you'd happen to be traveling to PA, they have the easiest permit for an IL resident but you now have to apply in person.

There is a whole forum for carry issues, appropriately titled "carry issues".

If I could obtain a carry permit in Indiana not being a resident, but working there for 3 months. But from what people have said it would take that long to get it

Obtain a Utah permit. Valid in Indiana according to handgunlaw.us I took the class from a Gander Mountain and got a Florida and Utah permit. Hope this helps

You can pay a $10 expedite fee...

You shouldn't have a problem getting a nonresident license.    I lived there as a nonresident for four years.

Why not collect the whole set?  Utah and Florida are the most popular, PA is the easiest [if you go there].   Get thee to handgunlaw.us

Or, if you are not inclined to leave your house for training [or want to do it at 0300, there are these guys:

Sweet sounds like I CAN get it, and possibly pay a small fee for faster processing.

Anyone know if I could apply for it before moving out there for the summer?

I saw an online form but asked for my address and wasn't sure which to put, also which box to check for "type of permit" as I did not see "carry" anywhere

I'm going to try to go to my local police department soon and ask if I can fill out an app for IN carry license and have them send it to the county police I will be staying in over the summer, thought I read something about this somewhere else

Get a Florida non-resident permit.  In Illinois you can get class, application w/ help filling it out and fingerprints from:

I work in IN, and am a KY resident.

The way it was explained to me when I applied for IN permit is you must work full time in IN (40 hrs/wk).

However I was told I could not apply for a lifetime if I am not a IN resident.

I was told this back in 08, dunno if its changed since.

You can fill out all the paperwork online. Make an appoint with L1 to get finger printed at the closest  location to you in Indiana. After that point, your officially submitted.

I was going through the application and it asks when I was an Indiana resident from when to when... do I leave this blank since I am not a resident? I didn't see any other part where it says resident or non-resident
