Like the title states. I'm planning to purchase another glock soon and looking for some advice/opinion's before I pull the trigger. I own a glock 17 recently sold my 19 as I just didn't care for the feel of the 19 and it's really not any more difficult to carry (chopped my 17's grip to a 19 btw)
I have a dozen+ mags in 9mm so that does slightly make me want to stay with a 9mm, however I do reload so a set of dies for a .357 sig isn't that big of a deal (I have 40 s&w shell plate and carbide sizer already, bullets are the same as 9mm, and similar powders that I already own, have plenty of brass) |

my little brother has a 20sf that I reload for and it's a beast but really kinda overkill for where we live. no bear country to speak of. the stock barrel is also pretty rough on brass running full power loads. I could see myself buying a half dozen barrels if I bought a 20, 9x25, .357 sig, 40, 9mm, longslide conversion, ect.... not sure I want to open that can of worms. lol

If you decide to go 357 sig, get a 35 and a 357 sig barrel. I voted 34, because it's my favorite Glock handgun to shoot. I have pondered this myself but was hesitant since I haven't seen to much about this conversion. any experience? Not first hand. One of my friends has a 357 sig barrel for his 24. It wasn't one of the common brands; the name eludes me at the moment. He did have it fitted by a smith. The KKM and Lone Wolf barrels are very common. There are many people on this forum who have them. I see alot of them being used in action pistol sports to facilitate lead cast bullets. The 40 is the parent case for the 357 sig, so it's a pretty straight forward conversion. Much more so than a 9mm conversion, where it will probably work with the 40 extractor, maybe not 100%. I do want a 357 sig barrel for my 35. With velocity being the attraction of 357sig, a longer barrel just makes sense for the caliber. I haven't bought one yet, because it doesn't serve a specific purpose for me, other than fun. I only have the 40 for USPSA Limited Major. One of my friend's father keeps a G32 barrel in his G23 most of the time. |

Wow. This is a tough one!
The Glock 34 is a great -- perhaps Glock's best -- pistol. The .357 Sig is a great -- perhaps the best -- cartridge. I have a 34 and love it. I EDC a G-33 and love it. You're really talking apples and oranges. The two choices you propose are really solutions to two, different problem sets. You really do -- in this case -- need both. |
