My buddy picked up a G17 at a gunshow. It was used, but in excellent shape. Funny thing is, the frame is 3rd gen - rail, fingergroves, etc. - but it is only a two pin frame. There is a small  circle in the molding where the locking block pin would be, but it is not there. This is the first 3rd gen frame I have come across that only had 2 pins. Guess it must be an early 3rd gen model.

Yep, the third pin was added in '02 on the 9mm receivers...

Mine is that way....somewhere around here there is a link to do a date check on the serial number... IIRC mine was made in september of 2000.  

I lucked out on mine, got it last October, never had been fired, no brass marks on the breach, or under the extractor, nothing, , still had the copper grease on it, got it for $375.
