I am trying to learn more about the Iraq contract Browning High Power. A few questions in my quest:

Does Z4I on the serial number (as in Z4IPT04XXX) equal the name of the Iraqi Republic contract pistol?

If so, does the PT mean 1986?

And if so, how many were made (4,000 plus?) and through what years?

Switching gears:

The Royal Iraqi Republic (pre-1958) also had a contract. The eagle crest on the top of the slide was similar but had a different eagle. What year were these made?

A known example had serial number 3739 and the Royal Crest. It is pictured below.

Thanks for any info at all. Steve

Are you sure that the "Z4I" isn't "241"?

Didn't FEG counterfeit some FN's and sell them to Iraq?

I remember seeing a few being carried in Iraq by the Iraqi police during OIF I.  Didn't really look too close though.  On my last tour, I suspect one guy was carrying one while he was planting an IED.  The pistol was confiscated, but while I was searching the body I found a shredded mag pouch on him and a magazine with a 7.62 hole in it.  The mag looked identical to the Nazi Hi Power mags I have.  No markings on it either.

I know Iraq built licensed copies of the Beretta 1951 called the Tariq, but can't find much on the Hi Power.  I thought I had read somewhere that Iraq built some Hi Powers, but it could have just been FEG copies alluded to in the above post.

It might be. Are there other Iraqi pistols with that prefix? Thanks, Steve
