I've had a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec. for a number of years now. I bought it new. It's serial number starts with "NM". It has no IMBEL/BRAZIL markings on it what so ever.

On the right side of the receiver it says this.
SPRINGFIELD
GENESEO IL USA
NM1991XX

It came with the key lock system on the main spring housing.

So is it Brazilian made or American made?

US law requires any gun not made in the US to have the country of origin on the frame. If yours doesn't have "Brazil" on it, then it most likely was made in the US, IMO.

A quick call to SA will give you the year & source of make, FWIW.

Pretty sure all the guns with the "NM" in the serial number are American made.

Nope.  

My mil-spec is a "NM" S/N & it's a Brazillian.

All Current production "NM" prefix serial numbers are made in the USA, to the latest of my knowledge.

So, at minimum it's an Imbel forging that's CNC'd, fitted, and built stateside.

SA is still the pistol to beat in each price niche (GI, MilSpec, Loaded, TRP).
