Has anybody tried this ?? And is it the same as the regular Q4364 ?? |

I bought some of this back in January of 2013 right before things went completely crazy. I have only shot a couple of boxes of it. The ones I shot functioned just fine..
It seemed to be from a rejected lot because some of the bullets, as you can see in one of the pics, have spots where the plating did not completely cover the lead core. When I sorted through mine, I think that around 20-25% of them had this issue. It doesn't seem to affect how they run as far as I can tell. |

Thanks. I was gonna get a few boxes of it because I don't have any of the "premium" stuff, but saw the Z in front of the product number and thought it best to ask. Glad it runs good in your gun, but wonder if that little "defect" will affect it's performance in the expansion aspect ??
Has anyone tested these for expansion ?? |

Not likely and any result would be subjective anyway. I cant see the price but if its reduced Id jump on it. |

I did the old, informal, water jug test on some of the worst ones I found in my batch. They all expanded beautifully, just the same as the ones without defects. Take that for what it's worth of course. I have not yet seen any gelatin tests specifically on these 'defect' bullets. |

Here is my 2 cents:
A bonded bullet will hold up better when penetrating barriers such as auto glass. Typically a bonded round won't have quite the expansion of a non-bonded bullet will but it is still plenty good. http://le.atk.com/ammunition/federal/handgun/details.aspx?id=579 This is 124 grain standard pressure HST. Look at the penetration and expansion, its great up until auto glass. Safety glass is a very hard test to beat and bonded bullets typically do better on that test. That being said, sheet metal, plywood, and drywall were no obstacle for the non bonded HST. Either would be a good round and you're really splitting hairs with top quality rounds. I certainly wouldn't warn you away from the Ranger ammo and usually bonded ammo is more expensive, I'm not sure how he got such a good deal on the ZQ4364. I personally chose the 124 HST +P as it performs very, very well and is more readily available. If you can swing it I'd pick up a decent amount of whatever you choose, I shoot up my carry ammo once a month or two and with the recent events I've had to alternate ammo a few times recently. This has cost me some cash to test the ammo before carrying it vs having a few hundred rounds for backup to hold me over. Even so, 124/127/147 Ranger/GD/HST is all good stuff and I have carried all of them and would do so again. It is just nice to have the same stuff to get your POI down (like 1" at 25 yards will make a difference in a SD shooting ).
ETA: Sometimes the Z is just a prefix for a overrun and the ammo is still 100% GTG. |

Thank you much for the link and info....funny..I just got the 124 gr HST recently and I'm glad that it performed well in these test's. Ammo here in so. fl. is either scarce or EXPENSIVE......many times BOTH !! I thinkl I will test this HST round in my G26 and get more if it is reliable and available. |
