OK. I've got my 1911.  Now what exactly IS the israeli draw?  I have heard people talk about it who don't want condition 1.

Thanks,
Patrick

Israeli draw is having a magazine inserted, but chamber empty, as you draw the pistol you rack the slide placing a round in the chamber. if you plan on carrying this way, id suggest practicing with dummy rounds about 3000 times to get it right. no way would i use this method unless it became second nature.

Yup, and IMO Israel draw is a very bad idea for anyone who carries a gun for personal protection. The way you carry your gun should allow you to bring your gun into action with only one hand because the other one might not be available. Israel draw necessitates both hands be free in order to make the weapon ready. If you get into a potentially deadly physical confrontation you are probably already at a disadvantage to some degree. There’s no point in carrying a weapon in a manner that may add to your disadvantage.... carry it ready for use.

I agree with the others that practice is the key to this style draw. While practicing that method you will also have to practice chambering a round with one hand. Of course don't do that with any live ammo either.

OK. Sounds like condition 1 for me then.

No matter what condition you carry your pistol in you still should practice as often as possible. I have seen quite a few people who have bought 1911's who under pressure have forgotten to switch the safety off and didn't realize it until they tried to pull the trigger. Practice, practice, practice, and then more practice.
