I realize others have probably discussed this before, but I just found a tool that I will be using from now on when I disassemble and (more importantly) re-assemble my firearms.

A coat hanger!

Yeah it's stupid, but I'm so excited to have realized the versatility of this.

It's so simple I don't know why I didn't realize it before. I was trying put the grip safety back into my XD and was  having a hell of a time. I found a video that suggested using a cutoff piece of coat hanger to hold the spring while you pushed the pin back through. I then realized that using the pieces of coat hanger as reverse placeholders for pins was invaluable to reassembling some of the smaller parts (the sear, trigger, etc).

It's dumb, I know, but I am thrilled to have discovered this huge help.

been using number size drills for years to be pin guides  for assembly
