So today on my way home I stopped by the local Gander Mtn. to do my standard bi-weekly browsing of the firearms and ammunition section, I checked out a used Ruger KP944D that had Houge grips. I must say that that pistol seemed to fit perfectly into my had, and really caught my attention. It is a bit heavier thant the XD I was looking at, but it feels rock solid. The machining and fit and finish were impressive. I'm doing my preshopping for my first pistol so any info would be appreciated. The sticker was $320 and the gun looked nearly perfect.

it will likely never fail you.  and if by some bizarre chance it does just send it to ruger and they will fix it for you.  they are a bit heavier than many comparable pistols but they are excellent pistols.

does it come with box, papers, etc?  if you can talk it down to $300 otd then that is a good deal.  even $320 otd wouldn't be bad at all.  and the p94 is generally considered to have the highest fit and finish of any of the p series.

I'm not sure what it would come with. I'm only preshopping.

Unfortunately I'm 20 and out of state right now. If only I could find one for FTF in WI!! I do like the solid feel of the pistol in comparison the the Glock and XD.

The Ruger customer service is great too, I have a Mini-30 and they have been extremely helpful. If you need something done with them, ask for "Donna in the office." She won't give you the liability BS when you need a part or a how-to to fix something. Needed a new triggerguard, got it free of charge in a week.

i had a similar problem with some springs on my p95 and a week later there they were in the mailbox.

and if you like it just get a friend to buy it for you and then buy it from them.  that way you won't miss out on a deal for what you really wanted.

I bought the p94 with a hogue grip on it for 350 at a local pawn shop here. Its the best damn .40 i ever owned and is my concel carry choice. Its got a brushed alum finish and has never ftf or jammed or the like. Great gun that feels so right in my hand and at the same time is gentle enough for my wife to love as well.

yeah yeah i know--kinda illegal.  but if he has it for a few months and runs rounds through it and then "doesn't want it anymore" he can sell it no problem.
