How are these made? I dont see any mold marks on mine. Are they forged? I am gathering some spare parts and were wondering if these were GTG or if there was better out there.

Good quality extractors are made of bar stock steel, heat treated and machined to exact tolerances.

Since mine has the non-standard external extractor, it would probably be a good idea for me to get a spare or two.

Is yours giving you problems? Best replacements are Ed Brown or Wilson.

Does anyone make an improved version of the Kimber external extractor? Or high quality?

Or is a Kimber replacement all I'm gonna get?

I doubt anyone makes an improved external extractor for the Kimber... I think you have only the choice of buying it through Kimber. I have that dileman when i decided to purchase my first Kimber; it was either the Warrior or a Stainless TLE with external extractor... I did a bit of research and decided to go with the Warrior.

You're probably right.

While I have had absolutely NO problems with my Kimber, I would like a machined extractor to replace the MIM part with.
Barring that, a few OEM replacements would be in order.

Neither have I.  I thought I really screwed up when I found out about the different extractors, but I've never had an extraction problem.....yet.

I wonder where I can get heat treat specs for an extractor.  They look simple enough to make, but with out heat treat numbers, I wouldn't feel they were any better.

Internal extractor?

My Warrior extractor shit the bed in less than 1k rounds.  I replaced it with a Wilson and kept on going.

Great gun though.  I've got about 6k rounds through it with no problems.
