Kimber Pro CDP II Had this given to me not too long ago. It’s in box near new condition. Box is dated 2012 and has a SKU# 10033554. There is info that I found on web but nothing specific to my SKU#. Closest thing I see now is a CA compliant model, but not sure if that’s the same as this. I am also seeing stuff about bad QC from certain dates and the plant moving outta Yonkers NY. It appears various factors determine the values that I’m seeing ranging from $600 up to over $1k.  I have an early version of that model. It was sold as the Elite Carry. I’m the original owner. It’s very boring to shoot. It makes one raggedy hole and eats everything. It really likes the PPU 230 gr ball ammo, which is nice because that’s relatively inexpensive to shoot. It’s not worth Nighthawk or Les Baer money, but it’s a good gun. Shoot it and enjoy it. |
I have a Pro CDP II as well. I've had it for 12-14 years, I think, maybe a little longer. If I had a gripe of any kind it's replacing the recoil spring every 1500 -2000 rounds, but even that is not a big deal. I had it bobbed and put in an Ed Brown mainspring housing. It's been a great pistol and is extremely accurate, just like above just one ragged hole it seems.  |

The New York versus Oregon Kimber issue doesn’t really apply to the 1911. Kimber made rifles for about a decade before it started making 1911s and there is a healthy debate about the pros and cons of Kimber of Oregon versus Kimber of New York rifle in terms of both quality/consistency difference and design changes. Kimber didn’t start producing 1911s until it acquired Jericho Precision in NY. All 1911s were made in NY, and only a few early production pistols are marked Oregon due to the company head quarters still being located in Oregon. That makes them desirable to collectors. Practically speaking, like any new production pistol, the early Kimbers had some testing problems particularly with the extractor design and they had a reputation for unreliability that still sticks with the pistol. That makes the later pistols a better pistol, due to the design details maturing. At the same time, other people prefer the early production Kimbers as they feel there was more hand fitting. And there probably was as they had not yet dialed in the mass production specifics. So is that better? Probably not. A related issue is that early Kimbers did not have the Swartz system. Kimber introduced that system and added the “II” around the same time they moved their corporate headquarters from Oregon to New York. That also plays a role in people thinking the Oregon Kimbers are “better”. In the last few years Kimber QA did slip, so personally I prefer Kimbers made prior to about 2021. —— The Custom shop pistols are all hand fitted and are very good 1911s that require less break to achieve peak reliability, and in and have very smooth triggers.
