Need some info, this will be my first 1911, and i already decided against SA. specifically (sp?) i want to know about the finish... |

I think its the best package you can get for around $700.
The slide, frame and barrel are well fitted. The sights are excellent for target work. I hate the swartz safety system, but they seem to be reliable lately. The matte finish wears quickly, but isn't worse than any other matte blue or black oxide finish. |

ugh, i HATE 1911 shopping, why cant someone make something i want in my price range?
what is the more expensive KimPro finish like? I am the kind of person who will work my fingers off to make sure there is no rust on my guns, and i need something to help reduce the work |

If the finish is that much of an issue you will need to have the pistol treated with Melonite or IONBond, which will run you $200-$300 plus shipping charges, kinda steep on a $700 gun. If SA is out for you, the Custom II is a good choice, but the finish wears easily and the barrel patinas (rusts) easily, so you will need to learn to deal with the chance of rust. My Custom II never rusted on me, even after lots of kydex holster use. Just remember to keep it oiled and away from lots of moisture and you'll be fine. |
| Bought a used Custom II a couple of years ago. Loved it but traded it towards new 1911. Wish I still had it. Great reliability. I think they're a great value. I own high-end 1911, like Wilson, Brown and Nighthawk Custom, but I'm also a big Kimber fan and own several of them. Too bad one of them isn't the Custom II I traded in. |
