| Thinking about buying one of these, local shop has a pretty good deal on them from what I can tell, no real intended use for this gun other that a range toy and to add to the collection, was wondering what other folks opinion was of this gun good or bad? wasn't sure if I wanted a 9MM or 45. any input would be much appreciated. |

I bought one as my first handgun. Tons of problems with fte related issues.
I tried for a year with lots of ammo, CM and Wilson mags, tried lots of different slide greases, different cleaning methods. No luck. Ended up selling it. I don't have a strong 1911 alternative for you, but I would stay FAR away from a used custom II. |
| I've owned several Series 1 and Series 2 guns. The only issue I ran into with 1 or 2 guns was premature slide lock due to the slide stop. I would drop in a Colt slide stop and the problem would go away. other than that, every one served me well. I'm not a fan of the firing pin block, though. |
| I had a Custom II that would not run after about a box of ammo through. I bought different mags, lots of ammo plus the slide stop and even took the full length guide rod out for a GI plug. It just would not run once it started getting dirty. No amount of lube would help. I would not buy a used Custom II if you didn't know its history. Don't get me started on my CDP pro II. I would take a Springfield Range Officer or a Ruger over a Kimber any day. David |
| I bought one from a co-worker who was going broke about 8 years ago (screaming deal). It even has the "dreaded" external extractor. I have shot the crap out of it and I have never had a FTE. Every time I pull the trigger it goes bang. I clean it after every range session and enjoy it immensely. |

Kimber is the largest 1911 manufacturer iirc. I've seen and shot a lot that ran fine. I've also seen a lot of shit. Probably a 1/4 of the ones I've seen. I work at a range and see a lot.
There's a lot of really nice alternatives. Cdnn has a lightweight operator for 879 |

There was a time when the TLE II was one of the best deals running. The Custom II sits in the same price range as the basic Ruger, Springfield Loaded, Remington, etc.
I'ld buy a used TLE II for 500 - 600 in a heartbeat. I don't know that I'd bother with a new one. |

I "hear" a lot of bullshit. I have three Kimbers from different generations that all run great and have had no issues.
I would not buy any 1911 with an external extractor. My Sig GSR was a piece of Shit. I have done extensive work on several Colts to make them run reliably and shoot accurately. My Kimbers are unmodified. |

Last night I saw 7 Kimber's. 2 could not get through a magazine. They were unmodified and not excessively old. |

Springfields are a fair option but many 1911 gurus ( hackathorn vickers and more) will say if you want to buy the 1911 with the best quality production parts most likely to run out of the box without issue you buy the current production Colt http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/03/03/breaking-colt-lays-off-custom-shop-director-employees-company-rumored-gutted/ |

Kimber makes a decent enough $700 1911. You get into trouble when you buy the fiction that they are worth $1500. This. Also would add that if you're not able to diagnose/fix any issues you encounter their CS isn't great. IMO a Springer is the better value if you don't want to work on your own guns. |
