Hey fellas. I got around to taking out the Kimber to the range for the second time in its life (first was only 50 rounds down range).

I've got a question. Throughout the range session and the 200 rnds of WWB 230gr FMJ that were shot, I had four malfunctions with the weapon.

The first happened at about 50 rds, with a round caught up on the feed ramp just barely into the barrel as I released the slide after inserting a full mag. (I was using factory Kimber mags)

I cleared it and it shot through the magazine just fine. Then it happened again, only this time it was the third or so round in the magazine. The slide again stopped with a round caught up on the ramp barely into the barrel. This happened the same way the next couple times it jammed too.

Any ideas or thoughts?

I noticed the ammo is extremely dirty compared to other stuff I have shot, but I didn't think that this would be the cause of the problem after just a few mags shot through it.

I haven't cleaned the gun so I'll post pics when I get home.

Thanks!

My springfield armory used to do the same thing when it was brand new. I was going to put a heavier spring in it, but the guy at the gun shop told me that this was normal and that it should go away after 500 rounds or so. Basically, your pistol needs to be broken in. Got put another 300 rounds through it and THEN start reliability testing.

Kimber suggests a "break in" procedure and that will help but, IMHO you need to use quality magazines before you judge the feeding problems.  Try some Chip McCormick Power mags or Wilson.  A lot of FTF issues can be solved by changing magazines.

I agree get some Wilson Combat or Metalform Mags. Use lots of breakfree lub. at range on slide. Until you have 500/700 rounds of 230gr FMJ Ammo. fired don't throw in the towel.
