| Seems I am missing the tool I need to capture the spring so I can break the pistol down. I can not find an accurate description of what I need from the manual, does anyone know and where I can get it? |

I think it is called a "take down tool" but cannot find my manual right now. This tool is nothing more than a wire that is bent at 90 degrees on the end. If you have any hex wrenches laying around, use one of the smaller wrenches that will fit into the hole of the spring rod. All this tool does is keep the spring compressed on the rod as you disassemble the pistol. easiest wey to to this. put empty mag into pistol and pull back slide. It will lock into place. drop magazine insert your "take down tool into the hole in the guide rod. release slide VERY SLOWLY pull slide back enough to get the slide pin out. put gun in your hand, slide in palm, gun butt up and pull back on frame until it slides free. do not pull the trigger while frame is off slide - I did this once and almost did not get teh pistol reassembled. once frame is apart from the slide, you can pull the guide rod free with spring compressed and tool still inserted. takes a little practice to do all of this. The kimber is not an easy pistol to service and it can be serviced with out the tool and that takes more practice. |
| Well I guess I am going to need to look for pictures, as I am not smart enough to do it without them. The way it makes it sound in the manual it should be easy to get the barrel to drop out after the spring is captured, not for me however. Thanks to all for the advice, by the way the paperclip worked the easiest. |

edblevi, After you have the spring captured, the slide stop removed and the slide removed from the frame, turn the slide over, pick up the rear of the spring assembly and pull it free from the barrel and then pull it out from the rear. Make sure the barrel link is rotated to the up position (away from the barrel), and the spring assembly should come right out with minimal resistance. Rotate the barrel link back to the barrel and the barrel slides out through front of the slide. |
Check out www.1911.org . Go to the Kimber forum, there is a section on stripping the Ultra models. Pictures as well. |
| A paper clip will work just fine, bent in a "L" shape, but check your Kimber factory case carefully. With my dad's Ultra CDP II, the take down tool was tucked between the plastic of the case and the foam lining, at the very back edge of the case. I found it by accident. |
