I bought a really lightly used Kimber Ultra Carry II in 9mm.  It is a really nice gun and shoots well.  The problem is that is jams a ton.  I have tried many different kinds of 9mm factory ammo and I am convinced that it is not an ammo problem.  Out of 5 rounds it probably jams 1 or 2 time (FTE & FTF).  Also on the last shot the slide does not stay back.  It traditionally should stay open correct?  Any idea what would be going on?  The gun is clean and not dirty inside a bit.  Also does anyone know where I can buy a new or used 8 round mag for it?  Thanks! - Bob

I run Wilson Combat mags in my Ultra CDP, not sure if they make them in 9mm, but I've had no such issues.

sounds like you have  crap mags.  I think brownells usually has some good deals on 9mm mags.  Skip the used mags.  Go with a known good brand.

Yes, this was my first thought too when reading your first couple of sentences. It's the Mag!Ditch the Kimber factory mag if that is what your using.

Go with Wilson. It could be the spring too. I know you got it used but how used? Do you think it has seen 500 rounds?

The gun probably has seen 200 - 400 rounds max.  The thing is in perfect condition.  Yeah, I am using the factory Kimber Mag.  If I buy a new mag it is kinda an odd ball to find since it holds 8 rounds (due to a compact gun) as well as a 9mm.  Do you folks think I should buy a new mag first or a spring?  I think the spring is a 22lb spring in the compact model.

Where abouts in OH are ya, I'm near Cleveland if you want to hit the range and shoot mine with the Wilson mags vs the factory.  They won't function in your gun but you can see a bit of a difference in the 45.

Tell me about your extractor.

My extractor is the factory extractor.  It is clean and seems to be just like my other kimber's as far as strength etc.  If I shoot the gun without the mag and it won't eject it should be the extractor or the spring right?  Of course it won't stay open after the shot but I should be able to eliminate variables.

Yes.  Your gun should still eject the round even with no mag.

I think Tripp makes 9mm mags?

Sounds like a mag issue, jamming+no slide lock= bad mag.   A fresh recoil spring from Wolff wouldn't be a bad idea.   All my kimbers needed a spring, mags from Tripp or Wilson and a little polishing to get 100%.

Bought a new mag at a gun show this weekend and it works great.  The gun shoots great and stays open on the last shot.  Thanks guys!
