OK, a couple of questions. I'm hoping you guys can edu-me-cate me on Kimber 1911s. A guy at a local shop raised the concern of the Kimber drop safety pin being sheared off, rendering the gun useless, during reassembly / cycling if improperly done. He mentioned this was only true in the Gen 2 models. Any truth to this? Is this a true concern?

Also, I've heard that all Kimber models / flavors have a light, crisp trigger compared to most other mfgrs. Indeed, one at a local shop broke very crisply and was impressive. I'm also considering a SA loaded, but can't find one locally (Tampa Bay) to compare it to the Kimbers at my local shop. Any opinions on SA loaded triggers vs. Kimber?

Is it true that Kimber slides and frames go through production as a matched set after tuning?

Vector me in to a Tampa shop full of 1911s if you know of one.

Personally, *I* am reluctant to buy any gun that has these added-on safety-by-lawyer goodies for the reasons you describe.

I would suggest a gun show rather than a shop, that way you can get the optimum variety, IMO.

Yes it is True. Deactivating the Swartz style firing pin block is not difficult and something I've done on my Kimber Custom II. The Kimber Warrior and Desert Warrior do NOT have this firing pin block however. . .

The Kimbers by and large have better triggers than the Springfield armory 1911s. However this is due mostly to the Springfield's ILS mainspring locking system and it's proprietary 28lb mainspring. Kimber uses a standard 23lb mainspring. Again this is an easily fixed problem.

I believe this to be so.

Better off asking that question in the Florida Hometown Forum.

I like my kimber custom II alot.

Here's my advice, if you have the money to, get a warrior, or if you can swing a little more go Wilson / RRA / Nighthawk / Baer / Brown / etc.  etc.

I like kimber a lot, my friend has a raptor that I have shot a few times.  I would also tell you to look at fusion fireams.  The company is run by Bob Serva ( former pres of Dan wesson) he is building a 1911 for me as we speak.  everything I have heard about these guns is great.  I spent about 15 Min on the phone with him going over what I wanted in my 1911.  Forged frame, split rear hammer, carbon fiber trigger with a 3.5 pull, fiber optict front site and wolfe springs in Stanless and it is costing me about the same as my friends raptor

I have a Kimber Aegis II and a full size SA Loaded 1911 in 9mm.  The trigger pull is pretty similar on both and both are stock.  A gunsmith was looking at the Springfield a couple of weeks ago and he dry fired a couple of times and remarked that he thought it had a pretty sweet pull.

Did you try Shoot Straight over there in Tampa. I deal with the one here in Apopka ALOT and they have SA's and Kimbers. FYI- find out who the manager of the store as and ask for the price. They show MSRP, which is pretty scary, but if you ask you will get a much better deal. Ask me how I know.....
