Girlfriend got a new Kimber today, the Pro Carry SLE. Here's the question: when you disassemble it you put this L-shaped pin into the recoil guide to keep the recoil spring under tension. Once you get the gun apart, do you pull the pin to separte the recoil guide and its spring? The manual doesn't say anything about it and I would think the spring would be a bear to recompress and put the L-shaped pin back in. [no clue] I am used to conventional 1911s so this is a new deal for me. BTW it's a sweet shooter. Had one failure to feed on the last round of a magazine once once in the first 50 rounds of 230 grain FMJ. Girlfriend kept them all in the torso of an IPSC target at about 15-20 yards, which is a good thing as it's her gun. I shot about 15 rounds through it and had groups of about 2-3" which is good for me. Only thing I don't like is the lack of an ambi safety and the black on black sights. Beats the crap out of the Kel-Tec P-32 she used to have in the nightstand... |
| Kimber's instruction manual says to leave the pin in to keep the spring captive. The manual also includes instructions on disassembling the spring from the rod for spring replacement (usually every 5000 rounds). It's not complex but definitely different from the usual 1911 style handguns. |
