If you had a choice and why:
Kimber Custom II unfired, base model blued -or- Colt Officer's ACP blued 98-99% maybe 100 rounds through it. |
|
The Officer's Model is more "collectible" and is an easier gun to conceal. It is usually quite reliable, but there was a "Sometime" problems with the recoil spring plug breaking a lug off and allowing the recoil spring to escape. Replacing the "possibly" troublesome recoil plug is easy to do, and this eliminates any possible problems.
I'd take the Colt. |

It depends.
I have an officer's model. It's a nice size for carry, but a little heavy (lightweight officers exist but are not that common). The other down side to the Colt is that it has nondovetail sights, so if you want to swap out the sights you need to have it milled or find a stake-in sight you like, none of the gunsmiths around here are willing to restake a 1911 front sight, every single one wants to mill a dovetail. The Kimber is going to be set up fairly well from the factory. Downside is that it will have ugly front sight serrations. If you wnat a smalelr carry piece, the Colt isn't bad, the Kimber is probably a more versatile overall. |
| Different pistols for different applications, and BOTH have their drawbacks. If I am paying, neither. If you are talking about some bizarro situation where I had to pick between the two, then I'd need to shoot both pretty extensively before comitting. Without that option, I'd take the Colt. |

Quoted:
Neither for me. Are you just buying to buy? Seems like youre at two ends of the spectrum. This. Do you want a pistol to CCW or a pistol to do lots of shooting with? I don't really think the Officer is one I'd want to take to the range and run hundreds of rounds thru on a very regular basis. It is what it is, a small concealable CCW type of 1911. |
| I would buy the Colt. You may buy something other than the Colt and try to convince your self latter your happy with it but you know you wont be. I look at like this if someone set both of them on a table and told you to pick one you can have it for free, well if I was a betting man I would bet you would grab the Colt. |

I've had good luck with Colts, so I would choose the Colt. I find they tend to be very reliable. I have a New Agent and my dad has a Defender. Never any issues.
I've been at the range where people were shooting little Kimbers and seen them jam up. I can't say that I've seen a lot of them at the range, but the ones I've seen all had reliability problems. Could've been user error too though, I don't know. But based on my experiences, I'd definitely say get the Colt. I'd be too worried about getting a lemon Kimber. |

I'm generally going to come down on the side of Colt every time, but there are two reasons I'd demur in this case.
1) Officer's models don't interest me in the least. I won't own one. 2) The Kimber Custom II is about the best model in their line from a value perspective. If I were standing in front of that cabinet with my $600 or whatever in hand, I'd keep on walking. I'm not crazy about either choice. |
| Thing is....I just got the Kimber Custom II in trade, but I am partial to stainless and 2 tone autos so wanted to try and trade for something like that. Had an offer to trade straight across for the Colt. Besides the Kimber in question, I also have a Kimber Ultra Carry (1st one), a Kimber Stainless Pro TLE/RL, and a Colt Lightweight Commander in Stainless. Wish I had kept my Kimber Ultra Tactical. I seem to be partial to Kimbers. I probably won't carry the Custom II nor the Colt I am being offered. Just collecting and maybe trade stock down the road. |

Here's one for ya - I bought a - Colt 1911 series 70 w/ the "O" package from the colt factory - of the EE.
And when I went to my FFL to pick her up, my FFL (Who is a Kimber guy) offered to trade me his personal "Loaded Kimber" for it - I politely declined his offer - |
