I have read repeated times that the LCP needs a small screwdriver to be disassembled. Not so. Here is a tip to disassemble without using a screwdriver using the base of one of your .380 cartridges which you would normally have with you at the range.
1. make sure the gun is unloaded 2. grasp the gun with your right hand with your thumb around the backstrap of the gun, and your palm along the right side of the gun, and your middle finger over the muzzle of the gun 3. hold the gun with enough pressure to take it out of battery (press against the muzzle with your finger) 4. pull outward on the edge of the takedown pin with your fingernail by inserting your nail in the slide recess (can be done even with very stubby close cut nails like mine) - only needs to be lifted a small amount until it meets resistance 5. take the rim of a .380 cartridge and place it under the lip of the takedown pin 6. pull the cartridge away from the pin - the pin will pop out of position fairly easily, and because the cartidge is brass, it will not marr the slide's finish as a screwdriver possibly could |

I've used part of the magazine. I thought about that - but since brass is softer than steel, I figured there is less chance of marring the slide, not to mention the chance of bending the feed lips of the mag. I don't really care about marring the paint so long as it doesn't affect functionality (let's be honest, it's a carry gun that's going to get a bath of sweat on a fairly regular basis). Whenever I've used the mag for this I've gone very slowly and gently so as to not damage the feed lips. Yeah, it's probably not the best idea, but it does work
