Hi,

Just picked up an excellent condition LW Commander and noticed that the slide to frame fitting has more movement (side/side and up/down) than my other 1911 (RIA full size tactical). I haven't shot it yet so I can't tell how accurate it is. How much movement is considered to be within the acceptable range? Also the trigger is a little loose for my taste (if you shake the gun, the trigger will move back and forth). Is this normal too? If not, how can I tighten it up?

You can buy a new trigger and install and that will get rid of the play as far as tightening up the slide to frame fit
I have a LW also and the frame is made of aluminum hence LW  the slide is tool steel I don't think you should peen down the frame rails to tighten up fit
but I am not an expert maybe somebody else can help with this..
I put a new ED Brown grip safety on mine along with a new hammer, sear, dis connector, grip safety, working on new sights
fiber optic with a Dawson adjustable rear..  Mine shoots good groups as is ....  2'' at 25yrds.

Buy a good aftermarket trigger - Greider, EB, Wilson, etc. The shoe will probably require fitting, which is a good thing, since it will then absolutely eliminate the play. This fitting should be done with a stone or hand file, as the amount needed to be removed is normally quite small.

If it doesn't give you accuracy problems (which I doubt it will), don't worry about the slide-to-frame fit. What's more important anyway is the barrel-to-slide fit.
