If one has already done alot of trigger time and feels, honestly, that they know and have strived to perfect the fundamentals of sight alignment and trigger squeeze, a laser on a personal defense gun/duty gun can do nothing but help achieve the goal of staying alive.

Laser grips should never replace conventional sights. That said, I think they'd be great on a defensive gun.

My vote of course goes for both.

Lasers are great for low light shooting.  I was recently convinced of this by LAV after a lifetime of skepticism.

Iron sights (preferably with tritium inserts) are best for daytime shooting and as a backup to the laser.

A laser will not make you a better shooter by itself - you have to master the fundamentals.
