What is the correct way to load a round in the chamber?  And by this I mean the +1 round on top of a fully loaded magazine.  I tried to lock back the slide and place one in the barrel manually but the action would not completely close with a round in there.  I did a functionality check according to glockfaq.com and my pistol should be working correctly.  Should I do this by putting a loaded mag in, racking the slide, then dropping the mag and putting another round in the mag?  Or should I be able to do it the first way?  Thanks in advance.

PS I tried to search b/c I could have sworn I saw this covered once before but had no luck.

Insert mag
Rack the slide
Remove mag
Add round to mag
Insert mag

That is the way I do it.

Load via magazine as that is how the gun is designed. Loading by dropping into chamber may result in broken extractor. Only do this in emergency.

+1

all autos are designed to be loaded from a mag

h/w, those w/ the external extractors (such as glocks) are ok loading by locking the slide back, dropping a rnd in the chamber and slamming the slide home (slide must slam home w/ full force to ensure closure)
internal extractors, like on 1911s=do not do this, b/c it will F-with the extract

best bet: load straight from a mag

Another tidbit. Only load 1 round in the mag, then chamber, then load the mag the rest of the way.

Might as well load 2 easy rounds rather than two tough ones

I guess that is what I did wrong then.  I gently let the slide come forward and that is what made the slide not close completely.
