I'm looking hard at a Springfield .45

I would love a Bureau (FBI) Model but at $2000+ it's indeed pricey.

I also like the Professional Models both with the full rail and the partial rail dustguards.

The TRP is also a sweet gun.

Reading about them they all are great purchases without a doubt and I guess it comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend.

This gun would be a range gun, CCW and eventually a duty gun once we get them approved.

Anyone have some guidance to offer as I move towards ownership of a nice Springer?

Chevck out the XD in 45 if you like Springfield, they are the cats meow, and this is coming from a former Glock crack addict. 14 rounds of 45ACP is hard to beat and the XD is a cross between a 1911, Glock and Sig, best of each in the XD.

I have a TRP and for a production pistol with some added features it is a great gun...depending on what you can buy one for. I got mine NIB for around $1100 and at that it was a steal. I see them many places at around $1400 or so and at that price I think you are creeping up very close to some pistols that are even nicer and can be found in like new / used condition for about the same price or maybe a couple hundred more, such as some Baers, Wilsons and even a few Ed Brown models.

It is amazing how many guys will shoot a few rounds through a nice gun and then let it jusr sit in a safe and gather dust for  couple of years before putting it up for sale. I have seen several Baer TR Specials go at around $1500 in like new condition here on the EE in the past couple of years as an example. (Delivered price NIB from Buds is $1825)

PX9109LP...get one, put a few 100 rounds through it.  Send it back if you have troubles, then replace full length recoil guide with a GI guide/plug, replace ILS with your choice of MSH or MSH + magwell and lighter main spring.  Replace and or upgrade other parts as you see fit.  This should get you a very very nice 1911 for around the $1k mark.  As always YMMV.

i woud say look at the mc operator, or the trp, if i was gonna spend much more than that on a 1911, i would go with a custom job, ie nighthawk custom etc,

There is currently a Professional and a Full Rail operator in the EE, both great deals.
I have the TRP and MC Operator and couldn't be happier with them. (Also several loaded's, but the TRP is my go to SHTF gun)

I recently picked up an early MC Operator and LOVE it.

The tightest, most accurate and best feeling pistol I own hands down.  The only thing I would caution is that the rail for the professional-type pistols really limit your holster selection.  I wanted the rail and got the operator, but it's my HD gun primarily so I wanted to put a light on it.

For carry or duty, since you already have a hand-held light and train to use that - it may wind up being a PITA for proper holster selection.

I did a lot of research here and else where and ended up picking up a TRP Operator for 1425 out the door.  I certainly like it. I have had some trouble with mags though it seems to be very picky. I would recommend the chip power mags it only likes some of the regular ones.  I went with a bladetech holster for 30 bucks.

As Decodeddiesel said.  Best bang for your buck.  New price $650-$750.  IMHO
