My buddy< a converted new shooter> bought his first handgun at a fun show yesterday.

He got a used Star Firestar in .45acp. I used to have the 9mm version of this and it was a rock solid handgun.

Anyone have any suggestions or things to look out for on thr .45 version? It stainless and in 80% condition. I spent most of last night cleaning it up for him and it looks to be in great mechanical condition.

It's a great gun.

They had some trouble with firing pins breaking on the early ones if dry fired without a snap cap. Also, as I guess you know, the only thing that keeps the safety from over rotating is the grip panel. Be careful if you take the grips off cause it's real easy to over rotate the safety and then hear the safety retaing spring go Ping!!!!

Also, very few parts are intercahangeable between the m-40, 43 and 45 since each was optimized for the caliber. I think he'll be shocked at how accurate that gun is.

Hmm , don't shoot one with fly away hair ? Naw just kidding , Actually I've had one/or the use of one for 10 years now . I find it quite handy to carry in my pocket , and it handles +P ammo just fine . I've never had any problems major or minor with mine .
