I was in the service back in the 80's and the 45's we had were a joke and never had any desire for one until I shot a couple 1911's at my club and now i'm completely hooked.
So now I'm on a quest for my 1st 1911. Looking to stay around the $1,000 range and figured on a 4' for carry. I would also like to get one out of the box with the ambi safety as I am left handed. I've been sitting back and reading the threads and doing a little research, and it seems the 4" SA Loaded Champion in SS fits the bill. The positive things I have heard about Springfields customer service aided in my decision. Just looking for feedback on anyone owning or knowing of positives or negatives of this model. Thanks. I own a government (5") stainless steel loaded and have very little negative to say about it. It is not likely that you will find more quality for that price.
I've owned mine for about a year now, put over 1000 rounds through it, and the first issue that has come up appears to be with the extractor. I get what appears to be a failure to feed (though I did read it could actually be a failure to eject the previous round properly) every so often. After recently purchasing a new carry gun, it's been relegated to range use only, so getting it into a smith or back to Springfield hasn't been a top priority. My only other complaint is the use of MIM parts, but unless you want to spend at least double, you aren't going to find many guns that come from the factory without MIM parts. |

Thanks for the great input.
I thought my sights were set but the Colt XSE Commander could definitely be in the running. Both look like decent guns from good companys and the price is close on both. I know there are a ton of choices and opinions, but all comments are appriciated. Keep 'em comming if you got 'em. Take it easy-n-at, Jeff |
