| The trigger on my 1911 is loose up and down and side to side. Anything I can do to fix this besides having a smith fit a new trigger? Is this a problem? Thanks. |

Actually, it depends a bit on how loose "loose" is.
As stated, the trigger bow "floats" in channels cut into the inside of the frame. It has to have some looseness in order to move. But too much movement--a really sloppy fit--will, at best, make your trigger feel like crap. Unfortunately, the only real fix is to replace the trigger--assuming the trigger bow ways (or channels or grooves or whatever you want to call them) are within spec. If someone got in there with files and stones, they could have enlarged the ways while trying to polish them. |
