I have two Taurus pistols, the first I purchase years ago and never fired until this month PT58, and one I took in about two months ago a 1911.

I always felt that the PT58 would not hold oil.  I would oil it, put it away and when I came back to it, the slide felt very dry.   I've had a lot of semi auto pistols, but this pistol always concerned me (maybe I obsessed about it, because ever time I see the pistol, I would pull the slide to see how wet it was).

Now I have this 1911 and I swear its worse. I shot a 2 or 3 weeks ago, I wanted to go back to the range today, pulled the slide and it sounded like I was sharping a knife.  Plus there seems to be some finish ware on the slide and I've put maybe 75 rds through it.

I know I can be other lubricants on these guns, and I oil them frequently.  I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem or if I'm creating issues in my head.

Additionally, the PT58 is FUN to shoot, I might use it to carry, just wish I purchase more magazines for it. The 1911 is fun, the mag likes to get hug up on the first round (ya welcome to 1911s) plus every time I shoot, my rounds hit low (maybe I'm cross eyed).

Am I crazy on this lube thing?

I would probably use a very light coat of militec grease on them, or one of the similar greases. I apply with a syringe I bout from Brownell's. You also might look in the SIG forum. There is a guy named Flork, I believe, that has written a great guide that could apply to most semi auto pistols. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Mark

I have a mid 80's PT99 that is that way. I can put it up wet and it's dry as a bone when I take it out. It seems to have no effect on the gun however. Runs fine and goes bang every time I take it out.

my pt111 pro shows break in wear on the slide and rail kinda normal on Taurus from what I can tell. I have been using frog lube paste on it and it seams to work well. out of my semi auto guns I found that the Taurus seamed to need more oil by using the paste lube it allows me to lube it up more with out worry of it getting into the internals. This gun has not been shot in a few months and I took it apart for a comment on a different post and the lube is still where I put it after sitting for so long.

I use M-PRO 7 Gun Oil on my Taurus 1911 a couple of drops on each side of the slide and good to go.

I was just given an old colt 1911 that hasn't been fired in probably 15 years it sounded like I was sharpening a knife also.  Took it apart cleaned it and then added a little mpro gun oil.

Now it is smooth and runs fine.  I like the m pro 7 stuff it is good at keeping the gun oiled without it running all over the place.
