It looks like I missed out on the NIB Kimber Custom Series I  I may have a shot at va_dinger's Series I if the LightFighter deal happens but that's a big "if" at this point.

So, give me your thoughts on the TLE/RL.  Be honest because I'm not married to any specific 1911 yet.  Also, if you recommend another manufacture or Kimber model please let me know.

Oh, everyone is welcome to jump in here and get me up to speed!

TIA

What is the difference between the TLE/RL and the Custom Series II besides the rail?  I looked on Kimber's website but wasn't able to find any specifics.

Hawkeye, jump here and give me you're input.

Up until recently, the external extractor, but Kimber is adding that to their entire line this year.

The TLE/RL also has 30lpi frame checkering and night sights standard.

My TLE/RL is absolutely hands down the best handgun I have ever had the pleasure of owning, and friend, I've had a LOT of handguns.

Now. TO answer your questions.

The TLE/RL differs from a standard Custom II in teh following ways (in addition to the rail).
The TLE/RL (and TLE) have a checkered front strap, night sights, and a slightly different slide stop. The TLE/RL also comes with the external extractor (which I have come to prefer). ALL Kimbers will start coming with the external extractor standard, as they are phasing it in across the board.
Other than that, they are basicall the same, sans the markings. One could take a standard Custom II, and easily turn it into a TLE.
If I had to grab 1 handgun and go, it would be my TLE/RL. It has been just an OUTSTANDING gun. The accuracy is just unbelievable. 100% reliable with the exception of the last round of the first magazine I ever fired through it. I cant say enough good things about it. If you want a 1911 with an rail, this is the one.
Now, I really want to check out a Sig GSR, and H&K's offering when they are each out. But, the TLE/RL is a winner.
If you dont need the rail, then a standard TLE is the way to go.

I traded in my TLE on my BP Ten II. At the time, I wanted it more than the TLE, since the RL did everything it did, and then some. Didnt know that two weeks later I'd come into so free spending money. So, I have another TLE on the way. I have been carrying my TLE/RL concealed everyday, and couldnt be happier. I want to get a Surefire mounted to it though, so it will become my dedicated house/low light gun, the TLE my carry gun, and the BP Ten my SHTF gun.

Thanks Hawkeye!  I really like the TLE/RL and if va_dinger doesn’t sell me his Custom Series I then I’ll be getting one.

Hey man, you're invited to go with us.  va_dinger has it all arranged and has a thread tacked up on the Virginia Hometown forum.  We can take up to 14 and I think we have about 7 right now.  Blackwater is only about 45 minutes from where we live.

Come on up man, it will be a blast!

I agree and it looks like I'm going to be able to score the Custom Series I from dinger at the end of this month!  If that falls through or he tries to put the screws to me (I'm kidding dinger) I'll have to pick up a TLE/RL.
