I'm still figuring this stuff out. So has anybody just drilled the glock slide itself for their optic and mounted straight to the slide at the MOS mill out WITHOUT the adapter plate?

My ZEV Glock 19 doesn't use a plate. You remove the cover and the RMR can screw right into the top of the slide where it is milled.
Call ZEV and see if they offer that as one of there services.
