I got an MTAC as a gift recently for my Sig 239. It seems like they mounted the kydex part strangely because the front clip is mashed up against it on most of the forward cant settings. I have looked around at pictures of other people's and none of them seem to have the body so close to the clip. I think it is because they left a huge lip on the top of the kydex that sticks out past the leather. If that was removed I think it would be fine.

For comparison, here is the one they have pictured on their website. You can see the lip on this one doesn't even cross the stitches.

It will probably be next year before my CHL app is processed so I have some time to send it back. I'm just trying to figure out if this is something that should be fixed or not. I sent Comptac an email but I thought I'd solicit opinions of other people who have one.

Completely normal. The position of the holster is relative to the clips, not vice versa. Also keep in mind that the body will be slightly behind the clips due to it being a IWB.

Can you rotate that front kydex clip forward and off of the MTAC body? Then tighten it down.

Yes, but the problem is that as the holster is canted forwards, the clips have to rotate towards the back or they don't sit straight on the belt which keeps them from hooking on correctly.
I really don't think the lip at the top is supposed to stick out that far. On all of the other ones I've seen the it stops inside of the stitching. If you look at the two pictures I posted near the top of the pistols, you'll notice that the angle the gun sits at in relation to the leather is quite a bit different.
I realize it isn't a huge deal, but I don't think it is supposed to be like that. Here are a few other examples from Google images. On all of them the gun sits at an angle that keeps it inside the front stitching, and the kydex doesn't protrude past it either, which allows enough room for the clips to rotate properly. (the first image is probably the most revealing because that one has the clips set for more of a cant than mine is and it still isn't hitting the kydex.)

Maybe I'm just being picky, but I know a lot of people here have one and wanted to compare.

i think this is the problem:

that part of the holster there is very pronounced, almost like a dome or scoop or something.  none of the other pictures of the mtac have that area nearly as protruding, they are all pretty much straight all the way along the top.  yours just has this huge scoop thing going on, which i think if it was not there, there would be no problem.

Yes, that is the main problem. The other problem is that I think the holster body is actually also mounted at the wrong angle relative to the leather backing.

Hopefully I'll hear back from them soon.

ehh, no the holster doesnt look to be mounted incorrectly.  try to look at the angle of the holster relative not to the clips, but to the actual leather part of the holster that goes up and against your torso/stomach.  thats the angle for the mtac, and yours is fine.  you move the clips for different cants.  try to photoshop that scoop away and put the normal background and you will see it looks to be mounted properly.

then again you have it in front of you face, i only see pictures....

Open up the "image 1" link in my other post and look at the angle of the XD's slide in comparison to the stitching and then flip back to the picture of my 239 and you will see what I mean.

The problem, if one exists, is that unlike Crossbreed Super Tucks, the leather portions of the MTACs are the same no matter which pistol it's intended for.

The only way to determine if there is in fact a problem, is to wear the holster for a while and see how it works out for you.

It's odd they've left that much open space in the kydex up there. I'm interested in hearing from CT if that is correct for the P239.

I haven't heard back from them yet, so I'm guessing it'll be next week. With the number of "post your carry rig" threads on the internet I'm kind of surprised I haven't been able to find a picture of another 239 MTAC. Maybe I should have posted this in the Sig section.

I would contact CT to see if that was normal. It could very well be. When I were my MTac with my 27 the hooks move with my body so its no big deal.

I heard back from Comp-Tac. They said:
"I checked with the
production manager and he said that due to the shape of the gun that is the way
we have to position the kydex on the leather backing, so there isn't much we
can do to avoid the clip hitting the kydex. Also, he said that you have more of
a forward cant to your holster which is bringing your clip closer to the
holster. Perhaps try a different cant to see if that might be comfortable and
if it will keep the clip from hitting the shell.
"
I found someone on another forum who has the same gun/holster combination and am trying to get a picture of theirs to see if it is the same way. I find it kind of hard to believe that this is actually the case considering they've got holsters for much larger guns that don't seem to suffer from this problem, unless it is caused by the giant trigger guard on the 239 (which I concede is a possibility, because it is huge.)

If the other one looks the same way I'll probably just bust out the dremel and hack off the oversized lip and call it a day.

Well, the other holster looks exactly the same as mine, including the huge lip at the top, so I guess I am just a whiny baby. I think it is in fact the gargantuan trigger guard that requires it to be mounted at an odd angle compared to the other MTACs I've seen. I still think I am going to dremel it down some.

No reason not to dremel it to fit it to your needs. Let us see how it turns out if you do it.

I think this is the answer.
